Of-the-Moment Jewelry

Lately I've been really into jewelry. I don't really know why, but suddenly I have the urge to just pile on every single piece of jewelry that I have, then spend all of my money buying more. Fabulous jewelry can just have that affect on you.

In my efforts to decode this mysterious bling obsession, I discovered that I'm just really in love with the latest jewelry trends. I'll probably sport these trends far past their welcome, but sometimes it's just hard to let go (and in this case, that might not be such a bad thing).

Zachary Fernandez RTW Fall 2014

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you probably have heard of my best friend Zachary. He's an amazing fashion designer, and is always finding his way onto my blog. From behind the scenes in his studio, to photography for some of my looks (this one and this one and this one and probably more), to fashion show craziness, he has definitely become a Sarcastic Wasian regular. I met him in the 6th grade, and we've been best friends ever since.

That's why when he asked me to model for his latest collection, there was no way I was going to say no.

RIP Oscar de la Renta

from Who What Wear
I know that by now this is old news, but I still wanted to dedicate a post to the late and great Oscar de la Renta. As most of you already know, he died this past week and he will be greatly missed by everyone from celebrities to designers to models to "normal" fashion aficionados like you and me.

5 Fall Favorites

Hi guys! So sorry it has taken me so long to post...I've just been so busy with homework, dance, PSATs, and just life in general. Plus, I'm still trying to get back into the swing of blogging, so bear with me here. Uh oh. I feel a long post coming on. (Sorry in advance!)

May Inspirations

It has been WAY too long since I've posted. Finals, projects, sicknesses, showcase...why must it always happen at once?

Anyways, this month's very late inspirations are kind of capturing the spirit and joy of this weird period of spring to summer transitioning. Everyone's all happy because it's warming up and school's almost out and beach days are in sight, but it's not hot enough yet to get miserable and lazy and terminally bored, so May is really a great month of happiness and hopefulness and it's awesome finding things and people that exemplify this attitude.

I also watched two things this past month that are really inspiring me: the classic How To Marry a Millionaire and HBO's Girls. Marilyn Monroe (and Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable) is just so fabulous in that movie, and while I'm usually an Audrey Hepburn person (who also made her way in here), Marilyn Monroe's classic beauty and joyful summer photos were so inspiring. And I binge-watched all of Girls, so yup, that happened. As it does with anyone else who watches that show, it took over my life and is now my favorite thing of ever. One of my favorite aspects is how amazing and flawless and stylish Jessa Johansson is. She is always full of spit and vinegar (what even is that phrase?) and new amazing bohemian outfits with a British accent (which I usually HATE outside of England but she's the only one who makes it work) on top of it so she's basically just fabulousness in a very seductive and intelligent and slightly damaged package. How is that not inspiring?

Sorry again for my terrible blogging consistency, but I swear I'll try to get better!

I hope you are as inspired by my inspirations as much as I am :)

Fashion Show!

It has taken me a really long time to get around to this, but finally, I have fashion show picture's for you! I gave a little sneak peek of Zachary's collection in my post In the Studio of Zachary Fernandez, but he was not the only fabulous designer in this show. Georgia Gubetzahl, Mikayla Phinessee, Emily Hampton, Sophia Zurr, and Quin Sotelo (who I modeled for!) were all among the amazing roster of designers at this amazing show.

In case you weren't there, I decided to show you all some of my favorite moments, both on the runway and off. The runway photos were taken by Nathan Bennett, Greg Gutbezahl, and Sasha Berliner, while the backstage photos were taken mainly by me, but with some help from Emily and Zachary.

I hope you like it! Maybe we'll see you next year...

I Want to Live in a Dolce & Gabbana Ad

I first fell in love with these flawless Dolce & Gabbana spring advertisements when I saw them in Vogue magazine. To me, they embody everything an advertisement spread should be. They're visually stunning, the models look flawless yet real, there are no extremely sexual, controversial, or sexist shots (unlike some of their previous ad campaigns... and lots of them), the clothing is sublime, and they show the spirit and style of the brand. The winter 2014 ads were equally as heavenly, but I think I may like these a bit more just because it's more flamboyant and colorful. They're fun to look at--as if you're really looking into a moment in a Dolce & Gabbana designed Italy, with everyone from bakers to fishers to beautiful women and men. In a world where things are often taken way too seriously, it's refreshing to see some candid, fun, and at times even funny pictures that are still stunning. The models actually look happy and healthy, and as if they're really having fun.

In the Studio of Zachary Fernandez

This past weekend I went over to my best friend/future couture designer Zachary's house to help him with some last minute fashion show preparations. While I was slaving away and inhaling probably more toxic paint fumes than what is healthy (when you can't find gold venetian lace and you want gold venetian lace, what does Zachary do? Paint white venetian lace gold with heavy duty paint at the expense of his and his best friend's health. Sigh.), I thought I'd show you around his studio and give you a sneak peek at his collection on display at the OSA fashion show (which I am also modeling in--more on that later).

April Inspirations

This spring, I'm really into weird stuff--and a lot of it. April is the blossoming of spring, so I'm loving florals, pastels, and warm colors right now. I'm usually into more minimaistic things, but this month I'm completely throwing that away and taking a dive into the more bohemian side of things, which is something I never thought I'd be able to pull off...more on that later.

Keeping in tune with the bohemian vibes with me this month, I'm super into jewelry and necklaces this month. Lots of layering of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings is really great right now and has been prominent both on runways and street style for quite some time now. I'm also planning on venturing into a category I'm widely unfamiliar with: head wear. Hats, headbands, wraps, scarves, I want to try it all!

This is definitely unlike me, but hey, style is dynamic. If it was static and definitive, it wouldn't be interesting would it?

How long have you been blogging?

This Summer will be my 3rd year anniversary but The Crime of Fashion is my second blog, I had it for a few months only.
Wish List 59 | On Mondays We Wear Black

What got you started in fashion blogging?

I was reading fashion and beauty blogs for about two years. Then the summer before I leave for Ireland for the first
time I've decided that my story maybe was worth writing about. A French student moving to Ireland, taking with me my French sense of style and being influenced (a lot) by the Irish Fashion.

Is there someone who helps you with your blogging (friend, photographer, co-blogger, etc.) or do you do it on your own?

My photographer is my fiancé Dariusz. He shoots my outfit looks when he has the time. Sharing my blog and dreams with him is such a great feeling, I love working with him. I hope that The Crime of Fashion will allow us to work even more together in the future.

Who are your favorite style icons?

Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Kim K and anyone in the street.

Opinions on Knock-Offs

Today I bought a fabulous Celine knock-off bag ($15!!) from my local thrift shop, and I absolutely love it. Those wildly popular Celine bags with the triangular side flaps are seriously sent from heaven.

The beautiful and heavily
counterfeited Celine bag I purchased
a knock-off of today
However, I (and a convo with Zachary...thanks mah bestie!) couldn't help but feel a little guilty. Should I really be supporting these people who are just human copy machines or should I save money to buy the real thing and support the amazing artistry and work involved in the development of these bags?

To be honest, I'm not sure what my opinion is on this subject. While I love (I mean love) the beautiful  designer quality and creativity we've come to expect from these top of the line names, I know that I won't ever be able to afford these beauties any time in the foreseeable future. H&M and Forever 21 are my kind of prices, with American Apparel and Zara being my stop for splurging. Honestly, my knock-off Prada baroque sunnies that I love so much are not all that different from my friend's real ones (Hers say Prada on the side and are made of a stronger, more matte plastic, if you were wondering), other than the fact I paid $14 and she paid $300. On the other hand, supporting quality, creativity, and craftsmanship is something I'm always open to doing, especially when I know that these pieces were handmade by skilled and passionate people as opposed to impoverished and poorly treated workers in sweatshops.

For about 2 years, since February of 2012.

What got you started in fashion blogging?
I though it would be a nice way to document my interest(s).

Is there someone who helps you with your blogging (friend, photographer, co-blogger, etc.) or do you do it on your own?
My sister takes all my photos. Otherwise I don't think I would have a blog, since I am still using a point and shoot camera.

March Inspirations Part 4: PFW Street Style

By the time we get around to Paris Fashion Week, the final leg of the fashion week run, even sweatpants can seem like a bit too much work. Leave it to the French girls to be effortlessly tres chic while the rest of us are sleeping in and running late. In these street style snaps, you can get a taste of that purely Parisian style that can only be seen in the fashion capital of the world.

See my fashion week street style posts from New York, London, and Milan!

Now what you've all been waiting for...street style from the one and only City of Love!

March Inspirations Part 3: MFW Street Style

Milan is definitely one of my favorite (if not the singular favorite) fashion cities in the world. The uniquely Italian personality, flamboyance, culture, and overall happiness comes together to make some amazing designers and runway shows along with some fierce and fun street style looks. I feel like sometimes fashion gets taken way too seriously, when in the end we're wearing pretty dresses and shoes to make us happy (hopefully). Nowhere is this carefree joy in fashion better exhibited than in the street style of Milan.

So now, the best street style of fashion week! (courtesy of Refinery 29)

March Inspirations Part 2: LFW Street Style

London Fashion Week, like the rest of the fashion weeks, was full of amazing and innovative runway shows that wowed fashion aficionados from all around the world. Aside from the runway shows, the street style of the fashion weeks is my favorite part. With such a high concentration of highly fashionable people, it's hard not to love it.

This is an extension of my last March Inspirations; NYFW street style. I know I'm only supposed to have one Inspirations post, but I couldn't fit it all into one :)

March Inspirations Part 1: NYFW Street Style

Bringing us all the way back to NYFW (it really seems like a lifetime ago), I thought I'd share with you my favorite street style from the Big Apple. Unusually cold weather accounts for a sartorially tricky situation, but that didn't stop fashion week goers from revving up the style.

Aside the obviously amazing runway shows that take place during fashion week, street style (until recently) has been commonly overlooked. While the runways show the future seasons of fashion, wearable art, and even sometimes pure genius, street style shows us mortals how to look effortlessly chic. I could do just a normal Inspiration post and separate street style ones, but really this month with all of the fashion weeks street style has been my main inspiration.

Behold: The best street style of NYFW 2014!

Best Dressed at the Oscars

While I have to admit I didn't watch the Oscars (you can get the best parts on the internet--the star-studded selfie, all of the big winners, and John Travolta's Idina Menzel/Adele Dazeem flub were all availible almost instantaneously), I did watch the pre-Oscars red carpet. Unlike the Grammy's, the Oscar's was Hollywood's most stylish night. It was actually really hard picking all of my best dressed because there were so many beautiful people and dresses!

Anyways, I hope you like my list! I can't wait until next year...

Lupita Nyong'o in Prada
Not surprisingly, Lupita Nyong'o is at the top of my best dressed list. This custom Prada gown in a stunning blue that could work on only her is not only the flowing princess dress of all of our dreams (but more stylish) but apparently the color reminds Lupita of her native Kenya. There's not much I have to say about this dress other than it's perfection. Lupita, let's be best friends.

The Best Collections of Milan Fashion Week

AGH! SO LATE! I know it's March and Paris Fashion Week is already over, but I wanted to share my favorite collections from MFW with you anyways. Sorry for the super late posting, but I hope you like my selections and are as inspired and awed by them as I am!

Anteprima I may be a little biased here because I absolutely ADORE minimalism and classic, tailored clothing, but I'm pretty sure this collection is flawless. There's a beautiful boldness in simplicity, and I think this collection really exemplifies that. It's very trendy (knitwear, wide-legged pants, grey, long coats, etc.), but has a subtle hint of classic chic. One of my favorite things about this collection is the wearability of it. If someone was walking down the street decked out in Anteprima Fall 2014, it would turn heads (and for all the right reasons).

How To Style: LFW Runways

As always, I'm very behind, posting my London Fashion Week how to style after Milan Fashion Week is almost over. I need to get on top of this...why do I have to go to school? I will definitely be posting a few recap Milan Fashion Week posts, but just a little late...

Anyways, I thought it would be cool to show you how you can interpret some of LFW's hottest looks off of the runway. Yes. We're stealthy fashionistas who wear things without wearing them. This How To Style post is a little different from the ones I've done in the past as I am using designers and not one item or style. I hope you like it, and please give me some feedback in the comments below if you have any thoughts on this

So behold: the sarcastic wasian's interpretations of London Fashion Week looks!

The Central St. Martins Collection is [insert dramatic adjective here]

There's a reason Central St. Martins is hailed as the best fashion school in the world. While the Academy of Art University show in New York was great, it doesn't even compare to the creativity and talent seen on the CSM runway. Because I hate to present you with anything and just demand you to like it because I do, below are some of the looks from this collection and some of my reasons why I love it so much. I'm not necessarily hoping that you'll leave this post with a new found love for this collection, but instead an appreciation for the young talent in this amazing school.

Trends from NYFW

Even though NYFW is over and LFW is gaining momentum, I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on this season's biggest trends on the runways of Lincoln Center. While I couldn't include all of the amazing designers and trends that went on during fashion week (will try to do better LFW coverage), this is just a quick sampling of the trends that we will be seeing this year. I love seeing how designers influence each other, sometimes even in subconscious ways. So many of these examples could fit into multiple categories, and it's fun to see how many trends and creative impulses can be incorporated into one look.

I hope you like these...get ready for some winter inspiration! (and yet another long runway post)

Liebster Award

Recently, I was honored to be nominated for the Liebster Award by the amazing Serena over at SerenBird. The award is for bloggers of less than 200 followers, and I think it's a great way for us newer blogs to get noticed. For those of you who don't know (it's okay, I didn't know until a couple of days ago either), this is how the Liebster Award works:

February Inspirations

In lieu of the recent Paris couture shows, this month's inspirations are all of my favorite looks from the runway. From Dior to Ralph & Russo to On Aura Vout Tu (notice, NOT Chanel. That was a disgrace. More on that later), these are some of the most beautiful looks from fashion week.

I hope you're as inspired as I am by these beautiful ladies! Sorry in advance...this post is really long!

Friday Feature: you are the poet

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ohmyfilipa.blogspot.com<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
How long have you been blogging?
aurora
I have this blog for almost two years, but I had other blogs before it. I had my first blog in 2011, I think.
What got you started in fashion blogging?
I wanted to have a place where I can share my photos and stories. A blog seemed like the best idea for something like that.
Is there someone who helps you with your blogging (friend, photographer, co-blogger, etc.) or do you do it on your own?
Usually, my sister takes my outfit photos. When she’s not around, my friends help me with the photos or I use the self-timer. All other photos were taken by me, and I’m also the only blogger.
